The Secular Student Alliance (SSA) at The Ohio State University (OSU) held their last meeting of the school year last Thursday. Avery Winston, Coordinator of the Columbus Coalition of Reason was the main speaker and talked about the United CoR organization and the history of Columbus CoR. Several other Columbus CoR non-student group members added comments: Dave Nohle, Columbus CoR Web Site Administrator, talked about doing charity as non-theists with Columbus CoR, Central Ohio United Non-Theists (COUNT) and the Humanist Community of Central Ohio (HCCO); Derrick Strobl, HCCO Board Member, and Frank Zindler, American Atheists Board Member and member of Omnipresent Atheists (OA), discussed Central Ohio secular group history. Brian Groenke ran the meeting, his last as President.
SSA at OSU has had a productive school year under his leadership. The prior Tuesday, five SSA at OSU members joined COUNT and HCCO at the Van Buren Drive shelter to serve dinner and help clean up. Prior meetings included well known speakers and were advertised to other Columbus CoR groups. Most recently, Hemant Mehta, the Friendly Atheist, spoke to 50 attendees on Thursday March 30th on “Why Young Atheists Are On The Rise” (see above photo). A previous meeting featured Matt Dillahunty of The Atheist Experience and had an even larger turnout.
COUNT, HCCO, OA, and SSA at OSU are members of the Columbus Coalition of Reason (http://columbuscor.org/).
