Education, charity and activism along with summer socializing follow a successful Reason Rally in Washington DC.
Jim Helton, Tri-State Freethinkers on the Ark Encounter
Omnipresent Atheists (OA) will host a presentation on the Ark Encounter theme park on Thursday, June 16 at 7 PM in the basement of Hampton’s on King. Jim Helton, President of Tri-State Freethinkers, will discuss their efforts to place a billboard and protest the July 9th opening of the park and the tax incentives that have been requested for it.
Columbus Pride Parade
The Humanist Community of Central Ohio (HCCO) is not only marching in this year’s Columbus Pride Parade but tabling there too. Volunteers are still being recruited. Central Ohio Gay Atheists (COGA) is also advertising participation in the Saturday June 18th event.
The Columbus Coalition of Reason (CoR) will have a booth at the Community Festival (COMFEST) for the third year. Volunteers are being recruited to staff the booth and talk to interested attendees. Many of our group’s members heard about us at COMFEST. Volunteers may also help defray costs (and get free beer tokens!) by helping with cleanup or security during COMFEST. Mid-Ohio Atheists (MOA) will be cleaning their section of highway near Mansfield on June 26. MOA is a Gold Star group due to their consistent efforts over the last few years.
Serving Dinner at Van Buren Dr Shelter
COUNT and HCCO are continuing to hold joint volunteer events at Van Buren Drive homeless shelter. 55 volunteers contributed over 300 hours since this program began in January 2015. RSVP with either group for 2nd Tuesday events on July 12th (COUNT/HCCO), August 9th (COUNT/HCCO) and September 13th (COUNT/HCCO). Participants often join the OA social meetup in progress at Hampton’s on King afterwards.
Ronald McDonald House
COUNT has begun their 4th year of involvement at the Columbus Ronald McDonald House, COUNT, now a Gold/level 1 affiliate of Foundation Beyond Belief’s network, invites members to support families with hospitalized children on July 3rd, August 7th, or September 4th.
The Secular Student Alliance (SSA) is again holding their annual conference at the student union on The Ohio State University campus. COUNT is volunteering at the July 8 – 10 event for their 3rd year.
HCCO Summer Picnic
HCCO says: “Please join us for our annual Summer Picnic, one of the largest events that HCCO hosts all year!” The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 9th, from 4:30 – 9:00 PM at Blendon Woods.
