Video on Separation of Church and State

Mid Ohio Atheists Inc. (MOA) will be showing the video The Lord Is Not On Trial Here Today on Saturday 12/13/2014 in Ashland. This Peabody and Emmy Award-winning documentary tells the compelling story of the late Vashti McCollum, and how her efforts to protect her ten year-old son led to a landmark U.S. Supreme Court First Amendment case that established the separation of church and state in public schools. The event starts at 10:30 AM in the basement community room of the Ashland Public Library. This showing is open to the public at no charge. Attendees will discuss the film afterwards.

Because this lunch event (complete with latkes) will be catered, RSVPs are required. The meeting will feature a white elephant gift exchange, so each participant should bring a “silly, unused or goofy gift“ that you might enjoy recycling.

6th Annual Xmas Eve Gathering for People who aren't Celebrating Xmas

Dawn Owar has invited the secular community to a gathering and Omnipresent Atheists (OA) is advertising it. [The editor has been to the last three such events and had a great time.] From the Meetup and Facebook events:

It's that time of year once again, when the people who don't celebrate or aren't celebrating Xmas come together and drink drinks at Bodega who will be open 6:00 PM – 2:00 AM. Bring your wallet and your friends plus a safe way home to this Columbus traditional alternative holiday event! Everyone is invited and welcome, whether you identify as an Atheist, Humanist, Jew, Heathen Satanist, Muslim or other non-Christian who's got nothing to do while everything shuts down for the Holiday. This is a party for the people who don't have a family thing going on, but of course Christians are invited too. Drop by after you're done with the family and have a cocktail with us. The kitchen will be closed so eat before-hand!! Surly Girl usually stays open for food in the early evening hours on Christmas.
