This isn’t just about Easter bunnies and baby chickens, even though they’re both cute and delicious.
In light of the recent attempt of our state lawmakers at passing a personhood bill, the Atheist Community of Tulsa needs to stand up, speak out, and be counted. It’s turning out to be a very politically and religiously polarized year, especially here in the Bible Belt.
It’s time that we unbuckle and “let Reason take the wheel”. (2012 ACT slogan?) Our government needs to see that we are an active and growing demographic, and that our votes will make a difference. We are now less than three months away from FreeOK. It’s go time.
April’s official monthly meeting topic will be “Atheists in Foxholes”, in honor of Pat Tillman, a professional football player and self-proclaimed atheist who was killed by friendly fire while serving in Afghanistan.
The meeting date of April 22, 2012 will mark the eighth anniversary of Tillman’s death. We will also present a video of our own Atheists in Foxholes and thank them for their service and bravery, both overseas and at home.
We will again be offering free chair massages to those who have served our country. Everyone else is welcome to pay, and the proceeds will be donated to either our ACT general fund or the FreeOK fund.
After the meeting, we will drive to our designated Adopt-A-Highway location to collect trash in celebration of Earth Day. I expect to see each and every one of you godless heathens there!
