The University of Central Florida (UCF) is the second largest university in the nation, serving more than 65,000 students and employing more than 10,000 faculty and staff. Its commitment to diversity and inclusion is codified in the institution’s top five goals and embedded campus-wide through the UCF Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
Recognizing that religious and non-religious identity is an essential component of the larger diversity conversation, the Secular and Religious Minority Awareness (SRMA) initiative has worked to advocate for, and educate our campus community about, inclusivity for marginalized perspective demographics.
The SRMA program at UCF has hosted 27 educational workshops that have reached 447 participants and oversees a UCF SRMA & Secular Safe Zone network with 172 registered Allies.
In 2016, non-religion became explicitly recognized in the university’s official statement on non-discrimination. As of May 2017, non-religion is now equally represented in the university’s resource for inner-life support and development.
