May 21, 2011: Judgment day? Atheists scoff

by Amy Rolph

Is the judgment day coming on May 21, 2011? One group of Christians with a radio show is spreading the word that the rapture is happening this month, and you’d better be ready.

Meanwhile, a group of atheists has started a “countdown to backpedaling.”

WeCan’ is decked out with a countdown clock, ticking off the seconds until May 21. The URL, of course, is pointing some fun at WeCan, the official site of the Family Radio group predicting the end of times.

The backpedaling clock is brought to you by a group of atheists in Tacoma — and they also have a radio show. The folks at Ask an Atheist on KLAY AM 1180 are hosting a party for those left behind. (Of course, they’re assuming that will be everyone.)

The invite:

The night that we’re all Left Behind, May 21st, 2011 at 8:00 PM, the producers and crew of Ask An Atheist would love to see you at Dorky’s Arcade in Tacoma. We’re throwing an awesome party in Tacoma’s new retro arcade and bringing in our favorite Seattle bands to rock the place as we celebrate the END… of the countdown to backpedaling.
