The purpose of the Secular Humanist Association at the University of Minnesota Duluth is to help others – not because of religious obligation, fear, or guilt, but out of compassion and care. This group, and humanists in general, look beyond religion and tradition to conclude that humans possess the ability to change things that hold humanity back from progress. Members of this group oppose world hunger, homelessness, and any other suffering and therefore strive to take progressive actions to bring them to an end. Members wish to help as many people as possible by volunteering, raising money, and donating to group-approved causes. The group embraces humanity, science, and technology, while rejecting myth and superstition.
