Godless Ads Now on Fayetteville Buses

Ozark Regional Transit buses bearing these words are the latest part of a prominent atheist ad campaign in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The words appear on bus ads now on the sides and rear of four buses, constituting 12 ads in all. These, together with a 10 x 40 foot billboard that went up last week on the I-540 bypass less than half a mile south of Wagon Wheel Road, are broadcasting the message of the Northwest Arkansas Coalition of Reason (NWA CoR).

The campaign was made possible with $8,000 in funding from the United Coalition of Reason in Washington, D.C. Each ad features an image of blue sky and clouds with the words superimposed over. The campaign also marks the public launch of the Northwest Arkansas coalition, which is made up of three area nontheistic (atheist and agnostic) groups.

"We want to reach not only those who commute to work by car, but also those who ride the bus," said Randall Fleck, coordinator of NWA CoR. "People who don’t believe in a god can be found everywhere: in the city, in the suburbs and in every strata of society. This is our way of letting them know that there are groups in Northwest Arkansas to serve them."

Fayetteville is the latest city of 26 over the last 14 months where the United Coalition of Reason (United CoR) has sponsored a high profile campaign. But it is the first city to run both a billboard and bus ads at the same time. "This is a new experiment for us," said Fred Edwords, national director of United CoR. "We want to see if this adds up to a double impact, or more."
