The Louisville Coalition of Reason is an alliance of organizations dedicated to promoting secular societies. Broad goals include support for science, reason, skepticism, civil liberties, separation of church and state, and the improvement of the human condition.
- We believe that people can, and do, live moral lives without believing in supernatural beings.
- We believe that government should not interfere with religion, and that religions should not interfere with government.
- We believe that all ideas are open to investigation, examination, and rational scrutiny.
- We believe that ideas supported by evidence and valid reasoning are worth further investigation and consideration.
- We believe in freedom of speech.
- We believe in civil discourse between the religious and the non-religious.
- We strive to criticize bad ideas and errant beliefs without demonizing individuals or whole groups of people.
- We believe that people of all religious and non-religious beliefs should strive to live in tolerance and harmony.

Socrates Cafe Louisville
Socrates Cafe Louisville is simply people getting together to ask philosophical questions with the purpose of getting a better understanding of the topic, philosophical inquiry, and realizing our own preconceptions. The discussion begins by people proposing questions to discuss; we vote on which question to use and then simply talk about it. Participating in a Socrates Cafe is a great way to sharpen your intellect, get a better understanding of your own beliefs, and learn more about how other people think. Discussions are typically spirited but respectful of one another’s points of view.
