‘Ask an Atheist’ broadcast from church

By Peter Harriman, Argus Leader | The irony was impossible to ignore, so Sam Mulvey and Rebecca Friedman, the hosts of “Ask an Atheist,” remarked on it several times.

They were taping their radio show in a church Saturday — All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, at 2222 S. Cliff Ave.

Predictably, the comments stirred an appreciative titter from the audience of about 40, at least for the first one when Mulvey observed, “Now we’re here in a church?” He hit the inflection of the question hard for effect.

But really, what the radio personalities from Tacoma, Wash., and the members of the Siouxland Freethinkers attending the show were seeking probably was something akin to at least one of the things people hope to find in organized religion — a sense of belonging to a community. (View Full Article)
