Good without God

United CoR's work to raise the visibility and acceptance of nontheistic people and organizations dovetails nicely with the message in the book Good without God: What a Billion Nonreligious People Do Believe. Authored by Harvard Humanist Chaplain Greg Epstein and published by William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins, the book lays out the positive aspects of how atheists, freethinkers, humanists, and skeptics think and live.

That's why United CoR was excited to take part in the launch of this book during the last week of October 2009. And that's why United CoR worked closely with the author and publisher during the 2009 phase of the book tour. Arrangements were made for local coalitions to host lectures and book signings in Chicago, Illinois; New York, New York; New Brunswick, New Jersey; Boston, Massachusetts; Palo Alto, California; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Portland, Oregon; Washington, DC; Baltimore, Maryland; and Tulsa, Oklahoma. In each of these cities the book tour was coordinated with the appearance of a billboard or public transit campaign using the good-without-God theme. The combination of the tour, ad campaign, and launch of new coalitions increased the overall impact for the local CoRs, for United CoR, and for the book itself.

Moreover, earlier on, in anticipation of the book's release, United CoR held an essay contest asking the question: "What does it mean for you to be good without God?" The winner read the winning essay at a special ceremony held at Harvard University on November 2, 2009.

We of the United Coalition of Reason therefore heartily encourage you to take a look at Good without God.
